The complacent attention in Sudan of childhood is deeply rooted. It is constructed on a firm religions heritage and a humane perspectives. The country could, therefore, achieve a palpable progress in commitment towards the child at all fields despite the detrimental circumstances. The whole situation may be summarized hereunder:
Plans & Strategies:

The General secretariat has prescribed inclusive targets and strategic directives for the child welfare all the next quarter of a century. The prospected directives have be segmented in five years schedules according to the spheres in question. A committee has been formed of the ministries concerned to tabulate the quarter of the century programme for welfare. A national strategy fragmented in work plans coordinated with the UNICEF have been approved. The Secretariat General – The National Council – Child Welfare has established several techniques, inspired by the competence and authority devised by the laws of the Council to coordinate achievement and follow up execution in compliance with global commitments specified as follows:

  1. Formation of a preparatory committee for the exceptional cession devoted by the United Nations for childhood.

  2. A technical committee to respond to comments and forward addition information to The Second Sudan Report (1993-1997) presented to the International Committee, Child Rights generated by the United Nations.

  3. Coordination Technical Committee that comprise in membership the concerned Ministries and agencies as well as voluntary institutions engaged in the field of childhood agenda.

  4. Establishment and activation of State Commissions-Child Welfare through participation in organizing their annual sessions to review programmes, plans and annual performance reports.

  5. Organization of cessions for enlightenments of the children for the staff authorized at the states of government personnel and civil society institutions.

  6. Secretary Generals – Child Welfare in the states have their assistants and Plan Directors trained at strategic planning and project prepartation.

  7. The offer to some child welfare councils of the states some aiding items e.g. computer furmiture, office equipment and cash resources.

  8. The Sudanese initiative for children has been formed at the council headquarters, membered by the domestic and global institutions engaded  in child welfare like the Government, civil society, youth, information and the UNICEF. The aim is the development of the frameworks of community machine operating for the sake of children. The circle of partners shall be expanded to handle collectively the efforts prescribed by the Movement stipulated as follows:

  9. Approval of the 5-years' strategic plan for child welfare in coordination with the National Council Strategic Planning (2007-2011) with the partnership and coordination of all ministries and Government institutions concerned with principles stipulated in the Sudan Provisional Constitution (2005) and the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, conformant to pertinent global documents relating to the International Agreement – Child Rights, together with the optional Protocols (2) affiliated to said Agreement, the document of work of competence for children and the Third Millennium Targets. The said strategy has been molded according to directives and themes of the quarter century strategy, through 12 schemes included in the plan.

  10. Formation of a strategy to abolish female circumcision. It is a special strategy pivoted to the Islamic authenticating concept and the sanitary awareness, adherent to Government legistations and policies. A special concentration is granted to raising community awareness to abolish habit within one generation.

  11.  Preparation of the national plan to deter violence. It comprised ten issues in protection of children against violence in different forms. They have, moreover, stipulated the executive programme applied at different levels within the child welfare and protection plan.

  12. The child statute (2004) has framed a legislation for the child rights at various fiells. The legislation committee attributed is the National Council – Child Protection has stipulated the child draft law (2008) to avoid shortcomings in the child statute (2004) and keep pace with constitutional development in the country.More
